In 1898 Rupert Brooke had visited the Strachey's at Ardeley Bury, a country house in Hertfordshire, near Stevenage. James and the family moved out of the family home of 69 Lancaster Gate, near Kensington Gardens, to Great Oakley Hall a Tudor house six miles from Kettering for the summer of 1905.
